New Mix: boygenius, The National, Baaba Maal, more

On this edition of All Songs Considered, boygenius is here to playfully talk about the origins of one of the band’s new songs, “$20.” So whose bright idea was this? Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers or Lucy Dacus? I’ll let them tell you. I’ll also play new music from The National, and frontman Matt Berninger gives us insight into the mysterious song titled “Tropic Morning News,” from the band’s ninth album, First Two Pages of Frankenstein.

The German pianist Niklas Paschburg, known for his cinematic piano compositions, has teamed-up with singer lùisa for a more pop-centric tune called “Dark Side Of The Hill,” from his new album Panta Rhei. The Korean-American singer Miss Gritt has a song, “Lain (phone clone)” based on an anime, imaging a character that has not only a life in our dimension, but is simultaneously quite alive in the digital world.
